Vanessa Jimenez Gabb is the author of the poetry collections, Mahogany, forthcoming on April 27, 2027 from Nightboat Books, Basic Needs (Rescue Press, 2021) and Images for Radical Politics (Rescue Press, 2016), and is the founder of the Radical Beauty Series, a video series that shares the beauty routines, rituals and beliefs of working poets, writers and artists. Her poetry has been featured in the Poetry&: series at Dia: Chelsea and has appeared or will in publications including The Atlantic, The Poetry Society of NY Anthology, The Academy of American Poets’ Poem-a-Day series, The Brooklyn Rail and The Poetry Project Newsletter.

She is a graduate of Poly Prep Country Day School in NYC and Tufts Universit, and received her MA in English from St. John’s University and MFA in Creative Writing - Poetry from CUNY Brooklyn College, where she was the recipient of the 2010 Himan Brown Award in Poetry. An educator for over fifteen years, she currently works for the NYC DOE, offers private writing coaching services and teaches poetry for Brooklyn Poets.

Of Belizean and Colombian descent, she is from and lives in Brooklyn, NY.
